Breaking The Color Barrier
by shopamelie on March 08, 2010

So, my friend and long time seller of pretty things to Amelie, Liz and I were shooting the shoot over her super cute, very cool line, Wish from Australia. Wish is affordable, fashionable and now available stateside at Amelie. But back to the point, Liz and I love to talk about fashion... what we're obsessing over and what we're just over. While we were talking serious love over a black, silk,, strapless harem pant jumpsuit ( in store this June BTW) we both happened almost simultaneously to declare our love for dark moody colors and the wearing of them this summer. Liz hails from NYC the original land of black and blacker. I, however, am the quintessential California girl and couldn't really figure out my sudden penchant for black, gray, and more gray.
Suddenly it came to me. After a week at LA Fashion Week, hours spent on style.com's Paris and Milan's fashion shows and my daily afternoon reading of the industry bible WWD I realized I've finally broken the color barrier! Wow, mind blowing reality has slapped me straight upside my newly curled head. I am going to wear black this summer and taupe this spring. OMG, I am finally free from the granny notion of colors and seasons. I mean really who are the Color Police? And why have I been allowing them to force me into red every December and yellow every summer. I'm not a jelly belly and Coco Chanel only knows I have never worn an article of clothing with any holiday embroidered, stitched or sequined on it. So why do I care what status quo tells me about color? Status! Quo! You're officially out . Black for Easter? K, maybe not so much but I will be rockin' the charcoal gray though.
