What to Wear Fall '09

by shopamelie on March 08, 2010

I've held off making our Best of Fall'09 list because I wanted to see the spring shows before I decided on what was trend and what was "going forward", as we say in the biz. If I'm going to ask you to invest in jeans, jackets, sweaters, tees, dresses and shoes then I wanted to make sure that it 's a wise investment with "legs". So here's the best of Fall "09 that will take you through til Spring 2010.

1. The Jegging
No, not a typo , this is truly the coolest innovation in denim since the low rise. Soft as butter denim that is so stretchy it molds to your body like a pair of tights. Why you ask? Because it makes wearing slinky tunics and long fitted tee shirts so sexy and rocker chic. Easy to tuck into boots but, oh so much sexier with killer heels. Jeggings we love- Jbrand's Olympia and Goldsign's Zoe.

2.Heels, heels, heels and Boots
Sorry cute flats but, you wanna rock your style find yourself some heels with sass. Statement shoes strong in style are what every fashion girl is talking about. Booties, pumps and sexy slingbacks are front and center. If your wardrobe is lack luster then this is where you need to spend some serious shopping time. Amelie, long known for our small but stellar shoe selection, is getting the sexiest, chicest and hippest shoes in store this fall. Booties with heels in black and taupe, geometric gray platform pumps, motorcycle boots and more. Shoe's to watch out for JShoes, Industry and Pink Studio all affordable versions of ankle boots, platform pumps and platform sandals.

3.Motorcycle Jackets
Think Francoise Hardy or Amelia Earhart. Smart, fearless women who made history and did it with flair. Choose from faux leathers, real leather and fleece versions. Our pick faux leather with faux shearling trim in rich camels and dark browns. Not only are these styles more wallet friendly, they're PETA friendly too! In store September 10th. Check out Ryu's Motorcycle in Faux and Prodigal Daughter's wool blend.

4.Straight/Skinny Legged Denim
Skinny legged denim has been the cut du jour for a few seasons now and it's not going anywhere. I know there are many that would rather go commando than skinny but, you need to get over your fear! A well cut pair of skinny or straight legged jeans worn with the right shoe makes your legs look long, lean and sexy. Paired with boots , platform pumps and a jacket and you just transformed into Heidi Klum. Still thinking twice then try a straight leg ala Jbrand's 912 jean. Pencil legs, perfect rise, hot washes and proven track record make this the best selling jean ever. Anne Hathaway,Cameron Diaz,Rhianna, Reese Witherspoon and Courtney Cox all rock Jbrand denim. We also love Goldsign's Misfit in dark, sleek, over dyed denim.

5. Boyfriend Blazer
We all have been wearing boyfriend tees and jeans. Just in time to dress up our look is the boyfriend blazer. The boyfriend blazer isn't so much about oversize as it's about a little shoulder padding. I heard you! You won't be channeling Crystal Carrington. This is the tiniest, most imperceptible amount of padding that gives you just a touch of height. Perfect to pair with the skinny jeans and heels above.

Fall Fashion 2009 is about sophisticated and sultry wearable items that have versatility and impact. Cant' wait till you see!

Prodigal Daughter

by Sydney Blanton on March 08, 2010

So this morning I had an hour,a cup of coffee and my new big, fat Instyle. I adore the fall fashion magazines buying every single one and perusing them for hours. I also am like a kid at Christmas when I find an item featured in Amelie that also receives national press. (Great minds think alike!)  So imagine my reaction when I see the reversible tank from Prodigal Daughter featured in Instyle, in September yet! This is huge and I realize that I need to tell you all as well ...Cool, collected, sophisticated, sexy and timeless are all perfect words to describe local girl, Joni Frazier's new clothing line Prodigal Daughter. Incorporating practical details like small pockets for a credit card, reversible tanks and straps that unbutton to adjust. All done with artistic simplicity in luxe crepe de chine.Prodigal Daughter promises to be one of the stand out fashion lines this fall. Already there's a wait list for her super cute boyfriend dress.
So, raising the champagne glass to you Ms Frazier can't wait for round 2.

Zombie Crazed

by shopamelie on March 08, 2010

K, first the big news Amelie is carrying Jbrand Denim. Just in on Friday they are already selling fast! First, to go was the super sexy Torn. A slightly ripped, sexily distressed Dark Vintage washed 912. For those in the know this is the most sought after denim style by every celebrity or non-celeb fashionista EVER PERIOD. So, second pair to go the super, sexy uber distressed Zombie seen on every cool rocker chick and super model for the last three months. You would think seeing these jeans every week on some of those most rockin' bods on the planet would make a girl look twice in the mirror before she left the store. But, no that girl slapped down her hard earned cash with a gee howdy grin and skipped out the door.

Post Note: Saw her out in the burb Saturday Night. All I can say, smokin'.

I can't wait to spend more time working with these girls.. it's an exciting time! As I said before, I'm a newbie at this so I will keep it short and sweet.. thanks for following! Now.. im off to browse the J Brand catalog to see which styles we are bringing into the store.. YAY!

Return of the Denim Jacket!

by shopamelie on March 08, 2010

So I'm happy to announce that the revival of denim jackets have come into full swing. I can remember wearing my acid washed express denim jacket with flower applique all through middle school, and loving every minute! Just yesterday a girl came in to Amelie with the coolest distressed denim jacket. It was a light colored wash with holes and distressed marks through the elbows, pockets, and on the back of the jacket. I need to update my middle school look and grab me one of these little puppies!

Exposed by the Zipper

by shopamelie on March 08, 2010

So, after taking some time to read the newest issue of Nylon magazine, which by the way features the new and improved Lindsey! I flip through the pages and every which way I turn, I run across the exposed zipper trend. Might I add this look looks ever so biker chic! As I look through our leggings at Amelie, I spot our gray and black leggings with exposed zippers! OOOh what a great outfit this would be with some worn in leather motorcycle boots. The wheels in fashion addict mind begin to turn. All I need is a metallic plum nail color and I'm set.

Breaking The Color Barrier

by shopamelie on March 08, 2010

So, my friend and long time seller of pretty things to Amelie, Liz and I were shooting the shoot over her super cute, very cool line, Wish from Australia. Wish is affordable, fashionable and now available stateside at Amelie. But back to the point, Liz and I love to talk about fashion... what we're obsessing over and what we're just over. While we were talking serious love over a black, silk,, strapless harem pant jumpsuit ( in store this June BTW) we both happened almost simultaneously to declare our love for dark moody colors and the wearing of them this summer. Liz hails from NYC the original land of black and blacker. I, however, am the quintessential California girl and couldn't really figure out my sudden penchant for black, gray, and more gray.
Suddenly it came to me. After a week at LA Fashion Week, hours spent on style.com's Paris and Milan's fashion shows and my daily afternoon reading of the industry bible WWD I realized I've finally broken the color barrier! Wow, mind blowing reality has slapped me straight upside my newly curled head. I am going to wear black this summer and taupe this spring. OMG, I am finally free from the granny notion of colors and seasons. I mean really who are the Color Police? And why have I been allowing them to force me into red every December and yellow every summer. I'm not a jelly belly and Coco Chanel only knows I have never worn an article of clothing with any holiday embroidered, stitched or sequined on it. So why do I care what status quo tells me about color? Status! Quo! You're officially out . Black for Easter? K, maybe not so much but I will be rockin' the charcoal gray though.

All My Boyfriends...

by shopamelie on March 08, 2010

So, I woke up today thinking about what to wear, who's kidding I go to sleep thinking about what to wear. So when my conscious brain last left off I was thinking about this gorgeous sorta see-through silk blend tee shirt with a big slouchy pocket by Kain. I have coveted this super tee for weeks and was ecstatic when it finally arrived in store by the hands of our favorite delivery person, Yair (go Brown). I lay the cloud-soft, sexy wisp of fabric out next to my Citizen's of Humanity Dylan jeans and of course those famous sandals. I take a step back and survey my fashion choice for the day and realize that it's all about the boy, well more precisely the boyfriend. When did this happen? I mean , just a few short months ago I thought I had sworn forever allegiance to the dress. I had bought shoes, bags , tights and leggings solely for the purpose of taking my summer dresses into winter (practical, so recessionista).I had my closet poles raised to accomodate all the dresses I plan to buy in the future. I even gave up swearing for #@#$% sake all to be more ladylike in my dresses. And now ,I'm obssessing over all the "boyfriends" I am going to add to my closet.
Shoot, I gotta lower the poles!

So, even though I have a million papers to write, presentations to present, and finals to study for, I somehow managed to find time to stumble upon a really cool website. It's called theselby.com It's been catching a lot of buzz recently. Basically the site has pictures of artists and the interiors of their house. Super neat! I found inspiration and motivation to continue my work after looking at dozens of amazing photos! It's worth putting aside some work to check out.
